About Vanguard Jiu Jitsu
Our History
Vanguard jiu jitsu was formerly known as GFTeam Mandurah. We began our journey in 2016, in Mandurah, with a mission to bring high-quality Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to our local community. We teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and grappling for all different individuals, encompassing all the fundamental and philosophical principles of BJJ in every single class, in the safest and nicest environment possible.


One of the benefits of joining Vanguard Jiu Jitsu as a beginner is the high-quality instruction and emphasis on fundamentals. Vanguard instructors prioritise teaching solid technique, which is essential for building a strong foundation in BJJ. Additionally, the team has a strong focus on discipline and respect, which can help beginners develop good habits and attitudes towards training that will benefit them in the long run.

A Passionate BJJ Practitioner and Coach

Leo Bobadilla’s journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began at the age of 14 in 1995, inspired by his brother’s involvement in the sport. Recognizing the immense value of BJJ, Leo quickly pushed himself to new heights, competing in prestigious competitions in Rio De Janeiro.
His dedication and skill led him to achieve his blue belt at the age of 16, and he began taking classes alongside his brother, Alvaro. Leo’s progress continued, earning his purple belt at 18 and his brown belt at 23. In 2008, he achieved the pinnacle of his BJJ journey by receiving his black belt in Brazil.
With nearly three decades of continuous training, Leo’s commitment to BJJ is unwavering. He trains diligently, twice a day, constantly refining his techniques and honing his skills.
Leo’s passion for BJJ extends beyond his personal practice. In 2014, he began refereeing matches, starting at the Brazilian nationals. His involvement in the BJJ community led him to cross paths with
